Plane

From the Sky

Getting here by plane:
The nearest airport is Glasgow International Airport. You can also fly into Edinburgh International Airport. Prestwick which is a sub-airport serving short haul, secondary destinations. From each airport, you can rent a car to drive to Dunskey, or book a private pick-up service, take the pre-booked shuttle that we or your host may have arranged for you, or take the train to Stranraer.

Getting here by train:
Trains are available from Glasgow and Edinburgh, through to Stranraer station. You can view the train timetable and book tickets here: https://www.scotrail.co.uk/ From the train station, you can take a taxi for 20 minutes to arrive at Dunskey Estate. We can book this taxi for you, and the cost will be added to your guest bill. Please help us to provide you with the best service by giving us plenty of heads-up.
Trains from London and other England regions are also possible. Take the train to Carlisle station (2.5 hrs away), then get a private car to pick you up, or drive here on a very scenic route. The stations are Carlisle and Euston (London). https://www.thetrainline.com/train-times/carlisle-to-london-euston

Getting here by ferry:
If you would like to travel to and from Dunskey from Ireland, we recommend taking the ferry boat, departing from Larne in Belfast, arriving at Cairnryan in Stranraer. You can book your tickets directly here: https://www.stenaline.co.uk/routes/cairnryan-belfast Once you have your tickets, we can arrange for a taxi to pick you up at the ferry terminal and bring you to Dunskey Estate, and the cost will be added to the guest bill for you.

Car rental:
If you are staying in the Castle, it’s unlikely you’ll need a car, although one is always handy. Around Dunskey are mainly narrow rural roads with no stop sign and perhaps one traffic light in the nearby town. Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive, but there are no Uber and Lyft. We can always arrange one for you. There are no nearby car rental companies, so if you want to book your own car, you must return it to your original arrival port. Please note we have only worked with our local private transport companies for meet-and-pick-up service, and we therefore cannot recommend certain taxi companies from other areas.

The closest airport is Glasgow Prestwick (PIK), which is approximately 1 1/2 hour’s drive away. It takes just over two hours to get to Portpatrick from Glasgow Airport (GLA) and two hours from Edinburgh (EDI). Additionally, there is a private runway only 15 minutes from Dunskey which caters to light aircraft upon arrangement.

Arrangements can also be made to land helicopters at the estate, with a landing capacity of up to two helicopters.

If you prefer, you may send your luggage ahead of time. Please contact us so we can make the proper arrangements.

Train

From the Rails

With beautiful views of Scotland, the train is a relaxing, fun way to arrive at Dunskey. The closest station, Stranraer, is less than fifteen minutes away from the estate. Once your train arrives at the Stranraer Station we arrange for a taxi cab to pick you up and drive you onto our grounds.

Carlisle station, on the mainline between Glasgow and London, is a 2 1/2 hour drive to the estate.

Automobile

From the Road

Some GPS systems have a difficult time recognizing our address. If you choose to drive, make sure you get in touch with us so we can provide turn-by-turn directions once in Stranraer.

Ferry

From the Sea

If you’re coming from Ireland, hop on the ferry to arrive at Cairnryan via P&O Ferries or Stena Line. From Cairnryan, it’s just a quick 20 minute journey to Portpatrick.
